As symbolized on the map, it is shown that the majority of schools are in an 'urban' area. There is a large cluster of schools in the dark purple section of the map that indicates this.

In this image of my urban designation map, I classified areas around Pierce County elementary schools as either urban or non-urban based on urban area and cluster data gathered from the U.S. Census. By creating Thiessen polygons based on the location of the school vector points, I could then categorize the data using information from the layers. Through analysis, it is indicated that most Pierce County elementary schools reside in 'urban' areas; less appear in the 'non-urban' areas.

On this portion of the map, it is symbolized in the light purple, 'non-urban' classification. There are only a handful of schools that reside in this designation.

In this image of my impervious surface ranking by Pierce County elementary schools map, I classified areas around schools on a scale from very low impervious surface to very high with a visual green-to-red color scheme. To create this map, I exported Thiessen polygons based on Pierce County elementary school vector points. I also used Pierce County impervious surface raster data from 2016 that was acquired through the National Map Viewer. Through analysis, it can be perceived that most of the schools are in 'high' or 'very high' impervious surfaces.

As symbolized on the map, it is shown that the majority of schools are in an area of high impervious surface. When comparing to the first map of urban area, we know that there is a cluster of schools in the most red area of the map. The conclusion can be made that most schools reside in a high impervious surface environment.

On this portion of the map, it is expressed as a low impervious surface area. This can be explained through the majority green shades that represent 'low' and 'very low', and yellow that symbolizes 'moderate'.
